DOMAINfest 2008

I will be speaking at, and attending, DOMAINfest, January 21-23, 2008 in Los Angeles, California. DOMAINfest is the domain industry's other big industry event (along with TRAFFIC), and this will be my first time attending.

I will be participating in a panel discussion on January 22nd entitled "Branding for Gold, Balancing Hype and Reality." Joining me on the panel will be David Sams, Mike "Zappy" Zapolin, and Andy Miller.

I believe we're going to discuss and debate the 'brandability' of domain names. That should be a lively discussion.

I'm particularly looking forward to the SnapNames Live Auction since one of the many gems from the Tucows domain portfolio will be on auction.

For more information about the conference, visit the official DOMAINfest Website.

Earn Your Black Belt in Domain Name Karate at BC AIM Direct Marketing Day 2007

I bought my first domain name over 12 years ago for $70 and sold it a few years later for $10,000. I guess I've been hooked on the magical allure of domain names ever since. In fact, that's one of the reasons I now work at Tucows, the largest domain name wholesaler in the world, where I get to think about domain names all day long.

If you'd like to learn how to protect your domain names, increase your website traffic, and outmaneuver your competitors, join me at the BC AIM Direct Marketing Day, November 8, 2007 in Vancouver, Canada.

I will be giving an informative yet fun presentation entitled "Domain Name Karate: The ‘Ancient’ Art of Maximizing and Defending Your Domain Names." I'll be demonstrating my secret Domain Name Karate moves like "The Quiet Warrior," "The Five Blades," and "The Peacock’s Feather." I might even be persuaded to share "The Green Volcano" with those in attendance, but only if I have a spotter.

Seriously, I'm looking forward to sharing what I've learned about domain names over the last 12 years.

Of course, I'm not the only reason to attend BC AIM Direct Marketing Day. Other featured speakers include Stefan Tornquist from MarketingSherpa and Kyle MacDonald (a.k.a. the One Red Paperclip guy).

I hope you can make it. Visit http://www.bcaim.org/dmday for all the details.

2007 Digital Marketing Conference

The death of Princess Diana. The Bre-X scandal. James Cameron's Titanic.

Where were you in 1997? And what were you doing?

Although it seems hard to believe, this year marks the - gasp! - 10th anniversary of the Canadian Marketing Association's Digital Marketing Conference.

I'm on the organizing committee for this conference and we've really tried to pull out all the stops in honour of this year's first decade mark.

Some of the featured speakers we've lined up include Mike Murphy from Facebook, Chuck Porter from Crispin Porter + Bogusky, and Simon Assaad from Heavy.com.

Ipsos Reid returns for a second year with the results of The Canadian Digital Marketing Pulse survey and we've just added a very special surprise session for Thursday afternoon featuring four Canadians you won't want to miss.

The enormously popular roundtables, "The Experience Exchange," are back by popular demand, and yes, yours truly will be moderating one of the roundtables on podcasting.

If you're serious about Internet marketing, please join me and a few hundred other Internet marketing enthusiasts at the 10th annual Digital Marketing Conference in Toronto, Canada on Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26.

For more information and to register, visit the 2007 Digital Marketing Conference Website.

Earn Your Black Belt in Domain Name Karate at the CMA National Convention & Trade Show

I bought my first domain name over 12 years ago for $70 and sold it a few years later for $10,000.  I guess I've been hooked on the magical allure of domain names ever since.

If you'd like to learn how to protect your domain names, increase your website traffic, and outmaneuver your competitors, join me at the Canadian Marketing Association National Convention & Trade Show, May 14-16, 2007 in Ottawa, Canada.

On the afternoon of Monday, May 14, shortly after my pal Mitch Joel warms up the crowd with his "Burn The Ships" keynote address, I will be giving a talk entitled "Domain Name Karate: The ‘Ancient’ Art of Maximizing and Defending Your Domain Names."

That's right, for the first time ever, attendees at Canada's largest marketing convention will learn my secret Domain Name Karate techniques. I'll demonstrate moves like "The Quiet Warrior," "The Five Blades," and "The Peacock’s Feather." I might even be persuaded to share "The Green Volcano" with those in attendance, but only if I have a spotter.

Seriously, I'm looking forward to sharing what I've learned about domain names over the last 12 years. I hope you can make it.

CMA Word of Mouth Marketing Conference 2007

I will be speaking at, and attending, the Canadian Marketing Association's Word of Mouth Marketing Conference, April 12, 2007 in Toronto, Canada. Unless I am mistaken, this is the inaugural year of this conference.

I will be participating in a panel discussion entitled "Going Viral & User Generated Media" moderated by Louis Gagnon, Vice-President, Marketing, monster.ca. Joining me on the panel will be Janet Kestin, Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy & Mather and Martin Ouellette, President & Creative Director, Provokat.

I believe we're going to attempt to define what viral marketing is. That alone should be worth the price of admission! ;+)

I'm particularly looking forward to the luncheon keynote address by Kyle MacDonald of one red paperclip fame.

For more information about the conference, visit the official CMA Word of Mouth Marketing Conference Website.

ICE 2007

I will be speaking at, and attending, ICE 2007, March 21-22, 2007 in Toronto, Canada. In case you are wondering, "ICE" stands for Interactive Content Exchange.

ICE 2007 is a conference dedicated to the business of content on interactive platforms and is a follow-up to last year's amazing iSummit conference, which I also attended and spoke at.

The theme of this year's conference is devoted to understanding the new consumer as creator. During the course of the three-day event over 100 speakers from around the world will explore the new and changing roles and relationships media and content has with this new consumer.

I will be participating in a panel discussion entitled "The New World Order" on Wednesday, March 21 alongside Brady Gilchrist, Jim Griffin, Maria Hale, Shel Israel, and Mike Lee. James Lewis will moderate the session, and we're going to explore how media companies and advertisers will engage the new consumer in this fragmented, anywhere, anytime, any device on-demand world.

If ICE 2007 is only half as good as iSummit was, attendees are in for a treat. For more information about the conference, visit www.ice07.com.

PodCamp Toronto 2007

I will be speaking at, and attending, PodCamp Toronto 2007, February 24-25, 2007 in Toronto, Canada.

PodCamp Toronto (www.podcamptoronto.org) bills itself as "a 2-day 'unconference' that will teach people how to plan, produce and publish a podcast."

Attendance is free. Yes, free!

According to its organizers, "this volunteer-driven, sponsor-supported event focuses primarily on allowing people to share ideas, interact with each other and learn in an open environment." Attendees will learn about podcasting from hands-on practitioners from Canada and the United States.

I will be one of the panelists on a session entitled "Will Podcasting Kill Radio?" that will be moderated by the awesome Leesa Barnes. You'll have to attend the session to find out what my answer is.

If you are interested in learning more about podcasting, I highly recommend you attend this event.

"Generation Google" Makes Its Ontario Debut

Join me, if you can, on February 22nd for the Ontario debut of my provocative and popular talk "Generation Google: The Rise of the On-Demand Consumer". I've given this talk at conferences in Vancouver and Montreal, and now now it's time for the Ontario premiere!

"Generation Google" explores the new breed of consumer and outlines how marketers must adapt their methods in order to successfully interact with today's On-Demand Consumer.

I will be delivering this talk at a networking and professional development event presented by Canadian Women in Communications that takes place from 6-9 PM on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the Ontario Club in Toronto, Canada.

Canadian Women in Communications (CWC) is "a national, bilingual organization dedicated to the advancement of women in the communications sector through strategic networking, targeted professional development and meaningful recognition."

BC AIM Direct Marketing Day 2006

I will be a featured speaker at BC AIM Direct Marketing Day, November 9, 2006 in Vancouver, Canada.

This one-day event brings together guest speakers (like yours truly), entertainment, and members of Vancouver's thriving integrated community to discuss "the whole of marketing."

I will be giving a talk entitled "Generation Google: The Rise of the On-Demand Consumer" on Thursday, November 9. This is starting to become my signature presentation, which is fine by me since I love delivering it.

I've always felt that Direct Marketing and Internet Marketing had a lot in common, so this should be a stimulating event.

Canadian Association of Broadcasters 2006 Convention

I will be speaking at, and attending, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Convention, November 5-7, 2006 in Vancouver, Canada.

According to the Convention's Website, "This is the 80th annual gathering of Canada’s private broadcasters, and the theme for this year’s CAB Convention – New Realities. New Rules. – reflects the tremendous rate of change that Canada’s private broadcasters are experiencing." Boy, you can say that again!

I will be participating in a panel discussion entitled "The New Advertising Pitch" on Tuesday, November 7. It promises to be a lively exchange.

Since I used to work in radio and television, I'm especially looking forward to re-connecting with old colleagues from the broadcasting world.
